Loggers Shut Out Bruins

TACOMA, Wash. — A dominant start and a lockdown bullpen effort propelled Puget Sound to a resounding 9-0 win over George Fox in Northwest Conference play Tuesday afternoon at the Lumber Yard.

Second baseman Kellen Krebs led the offensive onslaught, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including two home runs—a three-run blast in the first inning and a two-run shot in the seventh. His production was the heartbeat of a Logger lineup that scattered 10 hits and never let up after an early surge. Puget Sound (20-12) struck quickly, posting a three-spot in the opening frame. After leadoff man Drew Kamihara drew a walk and stole second, Ryan Spero followed with a free pass and a steal of his own. Krebs did the rest, launching his first homer to left to give the Loggers a 3-0 lead.

From there, the hosts were in full control.

Kamihara added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Sean Murphy delivered an RBI double in the sixth. Spero was a menace on the basepaths with two steals, and Cody Hirano chipped in a 3-for-4 day at the plate. On the mound, five Puget Sound pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout. Crockett went 4.2 innings without allowing a run, and Harvey Eschliman (3-1) earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief. The bullpen quartet of Eschliman, Rattie, Blackwell, and Robman held the Bruins (12-21) hitless over the final 4.1 innings while striking out six.

George Fox's offense was stuffed all game, managing just three singles. Right fielder Balingit accounted for two of them, but the Bruins never advanced a runner past second base.

Logger pitchers tallied 10 strikeouts with only three walks, matching the discipline their hitters displayed in drawing five free passes.

Puget Sound returns to action this weekend as they approach the last few weeks of regular-season play with a three-game road series at Linfield.
