Loggers Football Season Highlights Offense, Looks to Strengthen Defense for future

Joe Gallagher '26 set new program records with 133 catches and 1,323 receiving yards, earning him a spot on the First Team All-Conference.
The University of Puget Sound football team wrapped up the season seventh in the Northwest Conference, but their offense boasted one of the region's best passing attacks by ranking eighth in Division III with 298 passing yards per game.

One of the season's most exciting moments under head coach Jeff Thomas came in week two when the Loggers outlasted La Verne College with a high-scoring 49-41 win in double overtime. Running back Henry Hernandez '24 powered the offense by running for 190 yards and scoring two touchdowns, while wide receiver Joe Gallagher '26 added 146 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. On defense, linebacker Max Arneklev '24 made a big impact with seven tackles and a sack. The game was won when Willis Johnson '28 scored a touchdown in overtime, and Gallagher made a two-point conversion.

Several Loggers earned awards after the season for their outstanding play. Gallagher set new program records with 133 catches and 1,323 receiving yards, earning him a spot on the First Team All-Conference. Quarterback Mason Binning '25 led the NWC by throwing for 298 yards per game, earning him a Second Team All-Conference selection. Hernandez received an honorable mention award after finishing third in the conference in rushing yards, with his 190-yard performance against La Verne being a highlight. Kicker Thomas Goeglein '28 also earned an honorable mention. Finally, defensive back Tyler Evars '26 received an honorable mention for consistently limiting the top receivers on opposing teams.

With eight offensive starters returning, including All-Conference standout Gallagher, the Loggers expect another explosive passing attack under offensive coordinator David Carskie, with a deep quarterback group ready to take the helm. Wide receiver Isaac Tran '27, who led the team in receiving before a midseason injury, should make the unit even stronger. The defense starts a new chapter under co-coordinators Jud Keim and Jeff Schmidt, with honorable mention selection Evars leading the secondary along with fellow defensive back Steven Anaya '27. Young players like Sullivan Triplett '28 and emerging players Peyton Damasiewicz '28 and Gregory Wallace '28 will compete for larger roles in the front seven.

Puget Sound opens the 2025 season at home against Lewis & Clark on Sept. 7 before traveling to face Southwestern University in Texas the following week.
