TACOMA, Wash. -- The Logger's game against Southwestern University on September 13th was historic, as quarterback
Hayden Teeter put on a performance of a lifetime.
In a game that started off slow for Puget Sound, Teeter relied on his arm strength to get the Loggers going. He led his team back, scoring 30 points in the fourth quarter as they nearly pulled off an impossible comeback. All six touchdowns scored by the Loggers were through the air, as three different receivers hauled in two touchdowns apiece.
The Loggers, with one of the top receiving corps in the nation, have relied on their passing game throughout the years, but never like this. In fact, no one at the Division III level has ever relied on their passing like this.
In true buzzer-beater fashion, the Loggers marched down the field and scored a touchdown with eight seconds left on the game clock. Just one play earlier, on an incomplete pass thrown into the end zone on first and goal, Teeter unknowingly set the NCAA DIII record for pass attempts in a game. The touchdown was the icing on the cake, as his 86th pass of the evening found the back of the end zone.
Teeter launches himself into the record books, surpassing McCallum Foote (2013), Evan Jones (2009), and Mackenzie McGrady (2009), who were tied for the record with 84 pass attempts. Not only did Teeter break the single-game record, but he also broke the record for most passes attempted in a quarter with 41 (4th), and most passes completed in a quarter with 26 (4th).
He passes Ohio Wesleyan's Mike Wallace, who previously held the record for Pass Attempts in a Quarter (31) – a record that has stood since 1981. He also passes Pomona-Pitzer's Rob Bristow for completed passes in a quarter (21) – a record that has stood since 1985.
Teeter wraps up his historic game with a much-deserved Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week award. At the time of writing, he also currently leads the nation in multiple statistical categories, including passing yards (925) and completions per game (41.0).
The Loggers look to keep breaking records as they face California Lutheran at home on September 20th. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
