TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers bounce back against Pacific, taking down the Boxers (Score) to end the weekend on a positive note.
How it Happened
Carmen Cruz kicked off the scoring for the Loggers, nailing a pair of free throws to start on the front foot. Puget Sound kept their offensive momentum, jumping out to an 11-5 lead thanks to a Cruz three and a pair of buckets by
Grace Lee. The Boxers went on a run of their own, retaking the lead 14-13, but the Loggers bounced back immediately. Cruz layed it in, and Lee drove to the basket for two as well. The Loggers took their momentum and finished the first quarter up 17-16.
Puget Sound got off to a quick start in the second, scoring five straight points thanks to Lee and Cruz to put them up six. After Pacific scored, another bucket by Cruz, and a layup by
Autumn Hill pushed the lead to eight. From there, the Boxers went on a run of their own, bringing the Loggers's lead back to three. A bucket by
Natalia Sefair-Lopez was the final points of the half, as the Loggers took a 30-25 lead into the break.
Both squads traded buckets to start the second half, as Cruz and Lee both found the bottom of the basket yet again. A three by
Paige Oh made it 37-29, as the Logs found themselves on a roll. The Boxers weren't done yet, though, pulling back within two with just over a minute to go in the quarter. A Sefair-Lopez bucket and a free throw by
Claire Thompson extended the lead back to five, as the Loggers headed into the fourth up 40-35.
It was all Boxers to start the fourth, as two quick Pacific buckets tied the game at 40 apiece. The Loggers defense kicked in, holding the Boxers to four points in six minutes. The Boxers took a two-point lead with two minutes remaining, but two Lee free throws tied it back up. The teams traded free throws after that, but a crucial three by Cruz gave the Loggers a 48-45 lead.
Pacific then hit two free throws, and Cruz hit one in response. A Boxer layup with 3.2 seconds remaining tied the game, as the Loggers called a timeout to talk about the play. Thompson found Lee on the inbound, who layed it in to beat the buzzer. The Loggers take this one, 51-49.

Cruz and Lee combined for 36 points, as Lee finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Cruz had 20 points and 5 boards.

The Loggers head on the road to Spokane, taking on Whitworth on Friday, January 23rd. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
