TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers take home an impressive 55-44 victory over the George Fox Bruins, improving to 2-0 in Northwest Conference play.
How it Happened
The first quarter featured an impressive defensive performance by both teams, as an
Autumn Hill layup was the only bucket in the first five minutes of the game.
Mele Sake and
Carmen Cruz helped extend the Logger lead to four, as they found themselves up 7-3 at the first media timeout. The Bruins started to find their stride, though, as the Loggers found themselves down 9-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Another Sake layup tied the game at 11 apiece, and Cruz gave the Loggers back the lead with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Despite another Sake layup, the Loggers struggled to find their rhythm in the second quarter. A Bruin bucket at the buzzer made it 20-17 at the half, as the Loggers' defense kept them in the game.
The Bruins extended their lead with a quick bucket to start the second half, but the Loggers jumped right back into the game. Cruz stayed on fire with another jumper, and a layup by
Claire Thompson gave Puget Sound a 23-22 advantage. The teams continued to battle back-and-forth, but two straight buckets by
Grace Lee gave the Loggers a 33-20 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Puget Sound never looked back, as they didn't trail the rest of the game. Back-to-back jumpers by Cruz extended the Logger lead to five, but a Fox run tied the game at 41 with just over five minutes left in the game. Cruz hit yet another shot, and Sake scored five straight to help the Loggers to a 7-0 run. This started the free throw game, which eventually extended the Logger lead to 11. They take a smooth 55-44 victory over the Bruins, winning both games on their opening weekend.
Top Performers

Coach's Thoughts
"I keep saying it, but this team just keeps finding ways to win," said Logger head coach
Casey Kushiyama. "So proud of the way we defended all weekend but especially tonight against one of the most efficient offensive teams in the league."
