Dominant Second Half Gives Loggers 90-75 Over Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. -- A strong second half gave the Loggers an impressive 90-75.

How it Happened
The game was back and forth to start, with the Bruins getting out to a slight lead. Zane Miller drilled a three to tie the game up at seven apiece, but a 5-0 Bruin run gave Fox the lead. Miller bounced back with yet another triple, and Aaydan Saucedo drilled a three to give the Loggers a 13-12 advantage. The teams continued to battle it out, as back-to-back layups by Dante Deshautelle and Trevon Hamilton gave the Loggers a 19-16 lead.

The Bruins then went on a run, extending their lead to six, but the Loggers weren't out of it yet. A pair of Hugo Rutherfurd free throws and a bucket by Beckett Turner pulled the Loggers within two with 4:12 remaining in the half. More Rutherfurd free throws kept the Bruin lead to two, but a final pair of buckets by the Bruins put the Loggers down 31-27 at the half.

The second half was all Loggers, as back-to-back threes by Saucedo and Miller tied the game less than two minutes into the period. A Rutherfurd layup and a Hamilton three made it 44-39, and another six straight Miller points put the Loggers up 10 quickly. After the Loggers' 17-3 run, Puget Sound sailed smoothly to the end of the game.

Saucedo continued to hit threes down the stretch, putting the Loggers up 59-47 with just under 10 minutes to go. Saucedo hit yet another triple, with Rutherfurd also drilling a three from deep. All of a sudden, the Loggers found themselves up 19 with eight minutes to go. Miller hit another pair of buckets, Saucedo hit another three, and Deshautelle put a tough shot off the glass to put the Loggers up 77-57.

Despite a Bruin final attempt at pulling the game close, the Loggers closed out an impressive second half with a 90-75 victory.

Coach's Thoughts
"Good to see our offense come alive with a 2nd half explosion! Our hot shooting was complemented by tough defense. Lots of strong play: Hugo was near perfect shooting, Zane and Aaydan went crazy from deep, Tre made plays all over the court, Ian and Dez had big assists and defense. Great to get a road win after being down at half. Love our guys "next play" mentality."

What Happens Next
The Loggers travel to Lewis & Clark on Saturday, January 31st. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
