NEWBERG, Ore. -- A strong Logger first half proved too much for George Fox, pulling away to a dominant 77-56 victory to begin the second half of Northwest Conference play.
How it Happened
Tonight was a Broadway special: The
Hailey Quiggle show.
Quiggle got the game by knocking down a three, giving the Loggers the first bucket of the game. The Bruins made it even early, pulling ahead 7-11 with 4:30 left in the first. After several Loggers made their free throws to pull it close, Quiggle drilled two threes and drove it in for two, giving the Loggers a 19-12 lead.
Autumn Hill also got a bucket, contributing to the lead. A final step back buzzer-beater by Quiggle turned the quarter over with the Loggers leading 22-12.
Puget Sound didn't take their foot off the gas pedal, piling a total of 18 straight points on the Bruins. A
Carmen Cruz made three and a tough and-one capped off the Logger run, extending their lead to 28-12.
Claire Thompson found her first points of the evening, and five straight points by
Paige Oh gave the Loggers a formidable 35-26 lead heading into the break.
Quiggle continued her stellar shooting to start the third, drilling two straight threes to add to her ever-growing point total. Two more Quiggle free throws continued the individual 8-0 scoring run, with Hill extending the Logger lead back to 14 on a great pass from
Grace Lee. For the rest of the quarter, Puget Sound was on cruise control.
Mele Sake made back-to-back buckets, Cruz got to the glass, and
Natalia Sefair-Lopez hit two free throws to cap off the period.
Cruz drilled a three to put the Loggers up 63-43 to start the fourth quarter, later extending their lead with a tough bucket in the paint. Quiggle got back in the action after getting some rest, drilling a three and knocking in a floater to put the Loggers up 71-47 with four minutes to go. From there, everyone on the team got some quality minutes in the game, wrapping up a 77-56 Loggers victory.
