TACOMA, Wash. - - The Logger women's soccer team put on a strong show at Baker Stadium on Saturday afternoon, controlling the match from the opening whistle to blank the Whitworth Pirates 2-0.
How it Happened
The Loggers immediately set the tone, applying relentless pressure in the attacking third and overwhelming the Pirate defense early. The breakthrough came just two minutes into the match when Kate Short capitalized on an assist from Hayden Goodman's free kick to put Puget Sound ahead 1-0.
Puget Sound continued to dominate possession and fire off 16 shots in the first half alone. The pressure paid off again in the 39th minute when Leila Hausia-Haugen found the back of the net to double the lead 2-0.
The Logger defense and goalkeeping stood firm against any counter attacks, sending Puget Sound into halftime with a comfortable two-goal cushion and a massive shot advantage.
The Loggers maintained their tempo in the second half, adding another seven shots to finish with a 23-6 advantage in total shots over the Pirates. While Whitworth attempted to find a foot hold, the Logger back line snuffed out any threats and limited clean looks, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard entirely.
Goalkeepers Gianna Maldonado, and Stella Grigoryan split halves in net, combining for a clean sheet to seal the comfortable 2-0 victory
