TACOMA, Wash. - - The Logger women's soccer team picked up a solid 4-0 shutout win over the Willamette Bearcats in Northwest Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Loggers got right to work controlling the early tempo, firing off six unanswered shots before finally breaking through.
In the 22nd minute, Ella Oetinger sent a cross into the box and Zoe Witter ran onto it to score the first goal of the game making it 1-0.
As the half rolled on, both teams traded a few fouls and the Loggers utilized deep substitutions to keep fresh legs on the field. Willamette didn't manage their first shot of the match until the 37th minute and right before the halftime whistle, Leila Hausia-Haugen nearly doubled the lead when her shot rattled off the crossbar. Puget Sound took a clean 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The Loggers wasted no time to start the second half. Sofia Evans drew a foul inside the box, stepped up to take the penalty kick herself and calmly buried it to make it 2-0.
The offense kept clicking later in the half when Anya Dubois took the ball down the end line and served a great ball into the box for Kaitlyn Osada, who slotted it home to stretch the lead 3-0. Even up by three, the Loggers stayed hungry as Madi Jarzynka rattled off back-to-back shots to test the Bearcat keeper.
Puget Sound put the finishing touches on the win late in the game. Following a corner kick scramble where the ball bounced around the box, an initial Logger effort was turned away, but the rebound fell straight to Anne Linggi, who took a shot and sent it straight to the back of the net to cap off the 4-0 win.
