TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers continue to play well, taking down Redlands 8-2 and 12-4 in their first doubleheader of the season.
How it Happened
Game 1
Evan Moll got the start on the mound in game one of the doubleheader, pitching a solid five innings to get the Log rolling. He started out the game with a 1-2-3 top of the first, and after
Preston Crockett made his way around the basepads with a double, stolen base, and sac fly, Moll pitched another shutout in the second.
From there, the pitchers duel continued. The teams were held scoreless until the Bulldogs put up a run in the top of the fourth, tying the game at one apiece. Puget Sound bounced right back, though, as
Kellen Krebs and
Ryan Spero hit back-to-back home runs to put the Loggers back on top. Moll got out of a jam in the fifth, and a bases loaded groundout led to another Logger run in the bottom of the inning.
They added onto their total with a two-run
Matt Churchill homer, with
Kahiau Teruya knocking in Krebs on a base hit to right field. A
Jim O'Brien solo home run in the seventh sealed the deal, as the Loggers cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
Game 2
The Loggers continued to show their offensive power in game two of the doubleheader, scoring 12 runs against a solid Bulldog pitching staff. The Loggers got the game started with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second, but Redlands put up a run of their own in the third to tie the game. After
Ryan Tobler doubled to bring home
Jonah Velasco,
Isaac Fendel brought Tobler home with a double of his own, but got caught sliding into third.
Spero and O'Brien added to the Loggers' total in the fifth, both knocking in RBI singles to extend their lead to four. A three run top of the sixth inning by the Bulldogs pulled the game back within reach, though, as it was a 5-4 ball game heading into the bottom of the sixth. Churchill came in clutch yet again, hitting his second home run of the day to make it 7-4.
From there, the Loggers kept piling on the runs. Tobler singled to bring in
Brock Makishima, Crockett scored on a passed ball by the Bulldog's catcher, Velasco and Makishima executed a perfect double-steal, Arman Lettiere doubled, and
Ethan Nakamura singled to cap the scoring. They jumped out to a 12-4 lead, holding the Bulldogs back with an excellent outing by
Zach Robman. Robman threw 3.1 innings, striking out seven, and didn't allow a single hit.
