Puget Sound Drops Game to Linfield 71-66

McMINVILLE, Ore. -- The Loggers drop a close game to the Linfield Wildcats 71-66, wrapping up their road games for the season.

How it Happened
The Loggers got off to a hot start, as Carmen Cruz drilled a three to open the scoring. Cruz made another jumper a moment later, but the Wildcats tied the game at five apiece. Hailey Quiggle then went on a run of her own, knocking down back-to-back triples to put the Loggers up six. The Wildcats went on another small run, but another Cruz jumper made it 17-12. A final free throw by Savannah Pohl made it 18-14 after one, as the Loggers held onto a slight lead.

Natalia Sefair-Lopez got onto the score sheet in the second quarter, opening the Logger scoring with a three. Cruz got another bucket on a fastbreak, making it an eight point game. Linfield started to pull the game back, but a layup by Mele Sake put an end to the scoring spree. After that Quiggle laid it in after a block by Grace Lee, and Cruz hit another three to put the Logs up 33-29. Both teams then hit a pair of free throws, as the Loggers took a 37-33 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats tied the game to start the third quarter, but two layups each by Sake and Claire Thompson put the Loggers back on top. Linfield fought back, but a three by Cayton Smith put the Logs up five with 2:42 left in the third. A final layup by Cruz made it 53-51 heading into the fourth, as the Loggers continued to hold onto their lead.

Sake scored the first four points for the Loggers to begin the fourth quarter, putting the team up four with just under six to play. A Wildcat run flipped the script, putting Puget Sound down seven with three minutes to go. Cruz then hit a three, and Sefair-Lopez hit two free throws to make it a two-point game. The Loggers couldn't quite close out the game, though, as the Wildcats were able to hit their free throws down the stretch. The Wildcats took this one 71-66.
