Walks Plague Loggers in 10-4 Loss to River Otters

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers drop game three of their series against Lewis & Clark 10-4, as they look ahead towards the rest of conference play.

How it Happened
The River Otters got on the board early, putting up a run in the top of the first inning. Cal Johnson got the start on the mound for the Loggers, bouncing back with a scoreless top of the second with two strikeouts. The Loggers responded immediately in the bottom of the second, as Jim O'Brien hit a home run to deep centerfield to tie the game. This was O'Brien's second home run of the series after walking it off in game one.

The top of the third put the River Otters back on top, loading the bases with no outs. A hit by pitch brought a run home, but Johnson struck back with back-to-back strikeouts. The Otts added two more runs, making it 4-1 and taking an early lead for the third straight game. In the top of the fourth, the River Otters added two more runs to pad their lead. The Loggers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, as Kellen Krebs led the inning off with a double. Cooper Allen was able to bring Krebs home via a sacrifice fly, making it 6-2 after four.

Braden Blackwell came into the game to pitch for Johnson, going 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth. Preston Crockett got on base in the bottom of the inning, doubling and then advancing to third on a passed ball. The Loggers were unable to capitalize, keeping it 6-2 after five. In the sixth, Matt Churchill blasted another Logger solo home run to left-center, making it a 6-3 ballgame.

Despite giving up a walk in the top of the seventh, the Loggers were able to take advantage of a funky situation. The River Otters batted out of order, leading to the next batter being called out to end the inning. The River Otters added another two runs in the top of the eighth, and another two in the top of the ninth to put the game away.

Ryan Spero led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, and an O'Brien single put runners on the corners with one out. An error by the second baseman sent a Logger run across the plate, but that was the final run of the ball game. River Otters take this one 10-4.
