Loggers Drop Doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, Wash. - - Logger softball dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader to the Lutes, but the offense showed plenty of grit at the plate.

Game 1

The Loggers' offense looked to strike early in the top of the first. Alyssa Waldo went to bat and hit a single to shortstop. The momentum continued as Nyomi Estrada reached on an error by the third baseman, advancing Waldo to second.

The bats flickered again in the top of the fourth when Estrada hit a single to shortstop. Jazzy Allen followed up by putting the ball in play and reaching on a fielder's choice, ensuring the Loggers remained aggressive late into the game.

In the circle, Estrada took on a heavy workload, ending with 109 pitches in five innings.

Lutes take game one 10-0.

Game 2

It was a battle of grit in the second game. While the Lutes jumped out to an early lead, the Loggers fought back with some late inning heroics.

The Lutes struck first, but the Loggers didn't stay quiet for long. In the top of the third, Elyssa Garcia kickstarted the offense with a single up the middle. After Macy Maxwell hit a sacrifice bunt, Besancon came through with a clutch RBI single through the left side. Garcia crossed the plate, and it was a 1-1 ballgame.

After the Lutes built up a lead, the Loggers tried to mount a comeback in the top of the fifth. Garcia was at it again, battling through a six-pitch at bat and hit a double to left field. Maxwell followed up with a single to center, putting runners on the corners.

Puget Sound then turned up the pressure when Maxwell stole second base. Alison Madia hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Garcia. Kieryn Garcia entered as a pinch runner and immediately stole second. Besancon grounded out to first, but did her job by driving in Maxwell.

By the end of the inning, the Loggers had cut the deficit to 6-3.

In the top of the sixth, Alyssa Waldo singled up the middle and hustled to second on a wild pitch. The top of the seventh brought some excitement. Elyssa Garcia crushed a solo home run to center field, continuing her streak at the plate. Madia singled again and moved into scoring position on another wild pitch.

Besancon showed patience, winning a seven-pitch battle to rip an RBI single to right field, bringing Madia home.

While the Lutes held their ground, the Loggers' offense found its rhythm late, with the fifth and seventh innings accounting for the bulk of the teams' hits and momentum. Garcia led the way with 3 runs and 3 hits, while Besancon and Madia contributed two hits each.

Lutes take game two 10-5.
