Every Starting Logger Batter Records Hit in 12-3 Win Over Linfield

TACOMA, Wash. -- Every starting batter got a hit on Senior day, as the Loggers took down the Linfield Wildcats 12-3.

How it Happened
Senior captain Cal Johnson got the start on the mound for the Loggers, getting off to an electric start. He went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the first inning, and continued his good pitching throughout the day. Johnson finished his day pitching 5.1 innings, striking out eight and picking up the win.

Charlie Deggeller and Kahiau Teruya got Logger Field rocking with back-to-back base hits to start the bottom of the first inning. Matt Churchill took advantage of the base runners, belting a deep single to left field to send Deggeller home. This brought up fellow senior Kellen Krebs to the plate. On a 1-0 count, Krebs belted a home run to deep right-center field, clearing the bases and making it 4-0 Loggers. Ryan Tobler, Ryan Spero, and Jim O'Brien all recorded hits as well, chasing the Linfield starter out of the inning. The inning ended 4-0, giving the Loggers a fantastic start to the day.

Puget Sound kept the Log rolling in the bottom of the second, as Deggeller and Teruya both got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Cooper Allen, Churchill put barrel to ball yet again, this time to right field. The ball carried over the fence for a home run, making it 7-0 Loggers. The inning continued thanks to back-to-back hit by pitches, as Tobler and Spero made it to scoring position. O'Brien walked to load the bases, but with two outs, a popout ended the inning.

The Wildcats pulled back with a three-run homer in the top of the third, though, making it a 7-3 ball game. The Loggers responded in the fifth inning, as Preston Crockett, Teruya, and Allen all singled to load the bases. With one out, a Churchill sacrifice fly sent Crockett home, and a Krebs single pushed another run across the board to make it 9-3.

After a couple of innings of quality pitching from both sides, the Loggers added a run to their total with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Spero walked to start the inning, stealing second, and then scoring thanks to a Deggeller single. Teruya then singled to bring home Deggeller, and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Krebs then got hit by a pitch, making it a 12-3 ballgame.

Zach Robman pitched the final 3.2 innings for Puget Sound, closing out the victory in the ninth. The Loggers take this one, 12-3, taking the three-game series 2-1 over the Wildcats.

What Happens Next
The Loggers head to cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran for their final conference series of the season next Saturday, May 2nd. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm, with the Loggers just needing one win to clinch a spot in the NWC Tournament.
