The Pride of Puget Sound Athletics: Scholar-Athlete Winners

TACOMA, Wash. - - The Loggers came together on Tuesday, April 29 to celebrate an incredible year of athletic and academic achievement. Here are the award winners:

Tim McDonough Award: presented to those who positively impact their program as role models and leaders who care deeply about building relationships.

Kaylee Yamada (Women's Tennis): A cornerstone of the tennis program and a member of the crew team, Yamada serves as the vice president of the National Honor Society on campus, bridging the gap between athletics and high-level academics.
Tdohasan Sunray (Cross Country/Track and Field): voted most inspirational by his peers, his leadership extends to the role as president of the Native Indigenous Student Alliance and his work as a writer for the campus newspaper.

John Heinrich "Most Inspirational" Award: recognizing those who give their all to the team, regardless of the obstacles or injuries they faced.

Paul & Helen Perdue Community Service Award: honoring scholar-athletes who dedicate time to giving back to their community.

Malia Bruan (Lacrosse): As a leader on campus, she serves as the co-president of FASA and is a member of the Mortar Board, PES and the National Honor Society. Beyond campus, she dedicates her time to the Tacoma Humane Society, St. Joseph's Medical Center and a local food bank, while also supporting those in need as a crisis counselor for the crisis text line.

Cameron Wood (Men's Basketball): As SAAC Secretary, Wood also leads initiatives with the Special Olympics and Morgan's message, focusing on service and mental health advocacy.

Dill Howell "Most Improved" Award: presented to those striving to become the best version of themselves.

Tom and Meg Names Family Foundation "Iron Hatchet" Award: new this year, this award is presented to the athletes to best exemplify the Puget Sound standard. It's the highest level of commitment to performance, recognizing athletes who show up every single day and work at the highest level.

Ellie Rutkin- Women's Soccer

Daniel Wani- Football

Top Scholar-Athletes: these awards are the best of the best scholar-athletes, individuals who have reached success both in the classroom and on the field.

Harry Webisky Award: Hayden Teeter - Football

A chemistry major with a 3.8 GPA, he has been on the dean's list every single year of college. On the field, he was a three-year starter and finished his final season as the national leader in passing yards.

Roberta Wilson Award: Zoe Witter - Women's Soccer

An exceptional student athlete, carrying a 3.9 GPA as a biology major with an exercise science minor. On the field, her reliability and talent were unmatched, as she started every single game this past season.

Richard Ulrich Award for Leadership: the award given to those who lead by example, inspiring their peers through their actions and character.

Cayton Smith - Women's Golf & Women's Basketball

As the captain of the golf team, Smith shows her commitment with a joyful way of building relationships with her teammates and peers. Her leadership shines through community work with Habitat for Humanity and leading The Playmaker Summit (a girl's sports leadership event).

Jake Elorduy - Football

Student representative on the Athletic Director committee, he was also elected Northwest Conference SAAC president by his peers. Beyond campus involvement as a tour guide, his coaches speak about his resilience in recovering from multiple injuries, a true leader by example.

Robin Hamilton Award: for the athletes who show up every single day, ready to work and give nothing less than 110%.

Cat Schilli- Lacrosse

A two-year captain and the only captain this year, she has always given her all in practice, breaking program records, and leading the entire program from the front.

Dezman Baker - Men's Basketball

Forcing himself to play through major injuries that required surgery, he returned with a team-first mentality that was a spark for the program. He embraced a new role after these injuries and helped his team to success in every way he could.

Alice Bond Award: recognizing the top female athlete at Puget Sound.

Maddie Badger- Volleyball

Only a sophomore, Badger has already cemented herself as a dominant force. She was named as the Northwest Conference Player of the Year after receiving Player of the Week honors seven different times throughout the season.

Ben Cheney Award: recognizing the top male athlete at Puget Sound.

Joe Gallagher- Football

Gallagher etched his name into Logger history with a record setting career. He finished the season as the National Division III leader in receptions per game and shattered almost every single career wide receiver record in program history.

The 2026 Scholar-Athlete Award show capped another great year for Puget Sound Athletics, showing the talent, leadership and impact of its scholar-athletes in the classroom and in competition.
