THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Loggers wrap up their non-conference play against California Lutheran, dropping the game 41-7.
How it Happened
The Loggers got off to a slow start, but the defense kept them in the game early. They forced a Kingsman punt in their first possession, keeping them out of the end zone. The next drive was productive for Puget Sound. The offense got the ball moving down the field, getting a couple of key first downs to get into Kingsmen territory.
Matt Reed led the way on the ground, and
Brady Beck completed a couple of key passes to the the ball moving. Despite getting down to Cal Lutheran's 34-yard line, a fumble ended the possession.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Kingsmen struck first in the second. The Loggers were able to force a third-and-long, but a 20-yard rush made it 6-0. Two more quick scores made it 20-0, but the Loggers were able to put together a productive drive to end the first half. With 1:15 to go,
Cam Reed stepped in at quarterback and drove the Loggers down the field. A fourth-down conversion got the Loggers down to the 15-yard line, but a missed final shot to the end zone ended the half.
Cal Lutheran got the ball to start the second half, and drove down the field their first two possessions to go up 34-0. Needing some momentum, Reed led the Loggers in a 13-play, 72-yard drive down the field.
De'Andre Dukes Jr had three straight productive rushes, and
Demari Ross also hauled in a 13-yard catch on a crucial fourth down.
Matt Reed took to the backfield, punching the ball into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run.
Thomas Goeglein knocked in the extra point, making it a 34-7 ballgame.
In the fourth, the Loggers' defense forced a missed field goal, and got a much-needed stop to give the ball back to the offense. Despite driving down the field, an interception sealed the game. The Loggers drop this one, 41-7, but look to use a crucial bye week to regroup for conference play.

The Loggers head back home to take on Lewis & Clark on Saturday, October 3rd. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
