TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers drop their cross-town rivalry game to Pacific Lutheran, keeping pace, but ultimately falling 3-1.
How it Happened
The Lutes got off to a quick 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Loggers were able to respond immediately. A kill by
Aubrey Tanner and a pair of Lute errors helped the Loggers to pull the game within one, and a
Mia Fedota kill a moment later kept them close. A 10-1 Lute run ensued, and despite Puget Sound going toe-for-toe with PLU the rest of the way, the Lutes took set one, 25-14.
The second set was better, as the Loggers took their turn to start off strong. Aces by
Calista Davis and
Lauren Ly helped the Loggers get off to a 5-2 start, as
Maddie Badger was able to pick up her third kill of the night as well. After a Lute run, kills by Tanner and
Ursula Harrington got the Loggers back in business. Tanner and Badger continued to play well, feeding off each other to keep it close, 12-14. The Lutes slowly started to pull away, though, as the Loggers dropped the second set 25-18.
The third set was all Loggers, as Puget Sound started to pick up the pace. Badger and
Charlotte Fleetwood both opened the set with kills, with
Viviann Garcia also getting in the mix with a pair of kills herself. This helped kickstart an impressive 10-2 run that put the Loggers up 12-5. Harrington, Badger, and
Nicolette Raduziner all picked up kills during that span, with Garcia and Badger also recording blocks. The Lutes battled back, but the Loggers kept piling on the pressure. A 4-0 run in the middle of the set, including a solid service run by
Camryn Shigemasa, helped make it a 7-point game. The Loggers closed out the set, forcing a fourth with a 25-20 victory.
Davis started out the fourth set with yet another ace, but a -2 9Lute run shortly followed. Back-to-back kills by Badger, as well as another kill by Raduziner pulled the Loggers within four, just within striking distance. Badger secured two more kills, but that wasn't enough as the Lutes kept finding ways to get points. The Loggers pulled it back within six to make it 17-23, but two final points closed out the match. Puget Sound drops this one, 3-1.
Badger continues to impress, notching 14 kills and hitting .650, Tanner finished with 7 kills, 11 assists, and 12 digs, while Davis led the way with 21 assists herself.

The Loggers take the trip down to Willamette as they take on the Bearcats on Friday, September 25th.
