WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Playing in their third straight
double-overtime game, the Puget Sound Loggers settled for a
scoreless draw with the undefeated Whitman Missionaries in a
Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon in Walla
Walla, Wash.
The Loggers (3-3-2, 1-0-2 NWC) played a strong defensive game in
the first half, holding Whitman (5-0-5, 3-0-1 NWC) scoreless on six
total shots as Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) made all
three of his saves in the first 45 minutes. In the second
half, the Loggers turned on the offensive pressure, getting on four
shots and making Brett Axelrod make stops on two of them.
Heading into overtime, the Loggers had a slight advantage on the
field as Cooper Crosby of Whitman was shown a red card in the 88th
minute following his second yellow card, which gave UPS the one-man
advantage. Despite that, the teams combined for just three
shots in the overtime periods to settle for the scoreless draw.
Puget Sound will make their Northwest Conference home debut on
Saturday when Linfield comes to town. Game time with the
Wildcats is set for 2:30 p.m. at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in
Tacoma, Wash.
