TACOMA, Wash. - On a sunny September afternoon, junior Chris
Shaw (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter) scored twice as
the Puget Sound Loggers avenged a 2008 loss with a 2-0 win over the
Chapman Panthers on Friday on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.
Shaw's first goal game with just over 30 seconds remaining in
the first half as Chapman goalkeeper Tyler Hadzinsky misplayed a
cross by Puget Sound's Ben Coffey (Mt. Vernon, Wash./Western
Washington) and Shaw was in the box to collect the ball and score
into an empty net.
In the second half, the Loggers made it 2-0 in the 64th minute
when Shaw broke away down the right side and placed a beautiful
shot past the diving Hadzinsky for his third goal of the season.
The Loggers outshot Chapman, 14-9, while the teams were even
with six corner kicks each. Greg Saetrum (Boise,
Idaho/Timberline) was credited with the victory after making two
saves in the first half. Chris McDonald (Newton, Mass./Noble
& Greenough) took over in the second half, making three saves.
Puget Sound will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they
take on 23rd-ranked North Park beginning at 2:30 p.m. on East
Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.
