TACOMA, Wash. – A hard-fought battle came to an end with a
1-1 draw for the University of Puget Sound men's soccer team on
Saturday. The Loggers (6-3-5, 3-2-3) used a late goal by Kyle
Benson to tie the game and eventually earn the draw with Whitman
College.
Benson's goal came in the 85th minute in a fast-paced match.
After a goal kick, the ball was headed to Benson who chipped it
around the goalie. With the ball slowly rolling toward the goal,
Benson swooped around and finished with a tap into the net.
The first goal of the match came in the 55th minute. A free kick
was played to Connor Bottomly, who found Chris Perkins on a cross
to the far post. Perkins was able to put a forceful kick past the
goalie for the score and the lead.
That was the Missionaries (5-6-3, 3-3-2) only shot on goal in
the match as they were outshot 12-8 in the contest. Kyle Benson took four shots
and put two on goal for the Loggers while Colin McIntosh put three
shots on goal. Mathaeus Leland led the Missionaries with four
shots.
The Loggers will host Whitworth tomorrow on East Field at 2:30
p.m.
