TACOMA, Wash. – A trio of first half goals boosted the
University if Puget Sound men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over
visiting George Fox to end its three-match winless streak. Freshman
Andrew White
scored two goals in the victory.
White bookended the Loggers' (6-2-4, 3-1-2 NWC) with goals in
the 18th and 55th minutes. White kicked off the scoring in the 18th
minute after Kyle
Benson struck a perfect cross into the box. White put it past
the keeper to give the Loggers a 1-0 lead.
White's second goal was the only goal of the second half. After
receiving a cross in front of the net, White put the ball on goal
but the Bruin keeper came up with the save. White recovered the
rebound and put it into net for a 4-0 lead.
Benson also found the back of the net in the first half. Landon Gauthier
played the ball into the box to Benson, who turned and fired it
past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
The Loggers also scored on an own goal when a cross was
deflected by a defender and trickled into the back of the net.
Chris McDonald
made a pair of saves in the 65 minutes he stood between the posts
to lower his goals against average to 0.64. Kevin Halasz also made a
save in goal.
The Loggers outshot the Bruins 13-4, including a 6-3 advantage
in shots on goal.
The Loggers will make the trip across town next week to face
Pacific Lutheran at 2:30 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 10.
