Loggers Drop Heartbreaker In Season-Opener

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Puget Sound men's soccer team opened the 2011 season with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at UC Santa Cruz. The Loggers (0-1) and Banana Slugs (1-0) played over 100 minutes of scoreless soccer before UC Santa Cruz scored the game-winner in the 105th minute.

Daniel Seltzer put away the match's only goal on a rebound of a save. Chris McDonald made a save on Alika Okamitsu's shot attempt but Seltzer was there to put away the rebound.

The Loggers had the slight 13-12 advantage in shots but the Banana Slugs put six on goal to the Loggers' five.

McDonald made five save in the match to equal his counterpoint from UCSC. Terence Blackburn led the Loggers with two shots on goal.

The Loggers will travel further south to take on Chapman on Sunday at 7:15 p.m.
