Early Goal Slips Panthers Past Loggers

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – An early goal proved to stand up as the game-winner as the Puget Sound men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Chapman. Chris McDonald made a pair of saves but the Loggers (0-2) couldn't find the back of the net after 90 minutes.

Nick Echeverry scored the only goal just 19 seconds into the match for Chapman. Mauricio Alfonso earned the assist.

The Loggers controlled possession through most of the first 45 minutes and outshot the Panthers (2-0) 9-3 in the first half but failed to put a shot on goal.

In the second half, the momentum switched and the Panthers outshot the Loggers 8-2. One of those shots came on a free kick and found its way on goal, but McDonald made a diving save to keep the Loggers within striking distance.

However, the Loggers did not put a shot on goal in the second half and were left without their first goal of 2011 as time expired.

The Loggers return home next week to host St. Thomas on Friday at 5 p.m. and Montclair St. on Saturday at the same time.
