Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Taking a break from Northwest Conference play, the Puget Sound men's soccer team was able to get back in the win column with a 3-1 win over visiting St. John's (Minn.) on Sunday. Six different Loggers recorded at least one point in the contest as they broke a three-match winless streak.
Carson Swope put the Loggers (8-2-3) up just 10:45 into the match for the lone goal of the first half. Sean Ryan played in a cross from the end line and Swope broke through the Johnnies (5-5-2) back line to tap it in from seven yards out.
The Johnnies came close to drawing even on a couple free kick but Chris McDonald was there to make the saves and preserve the lead. He made all three of his saves in the first half.
In the 66th minute, Sam Zisette padded the Loggers lead when he finished a perfectly executed give-and-go with Andrew White into the upper left corner.
The Johnnies only shot on goal in the second half came in the 72nd minute. After a blocked shot, the Loggers failed to clear a bouncing ball in the 18-yard box. David Wee settled the ball and fired a shot past McDonald to bring the Johnnies back within one at 2-1.
With the Johnnies frantically trying to push forward. The Loggers turned a clearance into a counter for their final goal and to put the game out of reach. In the 88th minute, Ryan Rash placed a through ball to Connor LaFerriere who touched it over to White. Whitw was able to finish for his fourth goal of the season.
The Loggers remain home for their next four matches. First up is a crucial match with NWC-leading Whitworth on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
