Late Goal Lifts Loggers To NWC-Opening Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Junior Sean Ryan netted the game-winning goal in the 88th minute as the Puget Sound men's soccer team defeated Pacific, 3-2, in the NWC opener on Saturday. 

Puget Sound (3-3-0, 1-0-0 NWC) handed the Boxers just their second loss of the year (5-2-0, 0-1-0 NWC) with two goals in the second half.

Junior Theisen Chang scored in the 76th minute, his first goal of the season, for the Loggers off of a corner kick from Matthew Durland to tie the match at 2-2.

Pacific took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Nick Rudella. An own goal on Pacific tied the game for the Loggers in the 25th minute. Quitin Love, on an assist from Ian Farley, gave Pacific the 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute.

The Loggers dominated the attack, taking 14 shots, 11 on goal while holding Pacific to just four total shots. Carson Swope, Connor LaFerriere and Ryan took three shots each.

Nathan King improved to 3-2-0 in goal, making two saves.

On Sunday the Loggers visit George Fox for a 2:30 p.m. match.
