Four-Goal Outburst Leads To Logger Win

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. – Carson Swope scored once and assisted on two more goals to lead the Puget Sound men's soccer team to a 4-0 win at George Fox. With the win, the Loggers (4-3-0, 2-0-0 NWC) went through their first two conference matches unscathed.

The Loggers and Bruins (1-7-0, 0-2-0 NWC) were scoreless through the first half an hour. However, Josh Sonico put the Loggers on the board at the 34:01 mark on assists from Swope and Sean Ryan. The Loggers took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half brought on a three-goal scoring spurt for the Loggers to put the game away. Ryan played a through ball to Swope, who finished his chance from seven yards out just under eight minutes into the half. The goal was Swope's team-leading fourth of the season.

Vince McCluskey all but put the match out of reach in the 66th minute when he buried a shot from the middle of the box of a pair of one touches, including an assisting touch from Swope.

An exclamation point was put on the win in the middle of the 73rd minute when Matt Durland scored for the Loggers.

Nate King and Daniel Kirsch combined for the shutout in goal with King earning the win and saving the one shot the Bruins put on goal. The Loggers also outshot the hosts 18-8, including an 8-1 mark in shots put on goal.

The Loggers return home next week to host Willamette at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Baker Stadium.
