Three early goals puts Puget Sound past Pacific

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Bringing an offensive strike, the University of Puget Sound men's soccer team scored three times in the opening 12 minutes of the match to defeat Pacific University on Saturday afternoon.

Scoring just 90 seconds into the match was Sean Ryan for his fourth goal of the year. Ryan was able to finish on passes from Andrew White and Nick Campanelli. White was able to score for himself in the ninth minute on a cross from Connor LaFerriere. In the 12th minute, Landon Gauthier was able to hit a picturesque shot into the upper right hand corner of the net on a through ball from White.

In the first half, the Loggers (4-2-1, 1-0 NWC) started hot, with three goals in the opening 12 minutes. Ryan, White and Gauthier recorded the goals. The Loggers took five other shots in the period while limiting the Boxers (3-3, 0-1 NWC) to one. Throughout the first half, Puget Sound was able to maintain control of the game and possession of the ball.

The Logger defense continued denying Pacific opportunities in the second half by intercepting Boxer passes. Goalkeeper Nathan King punched out two crosses and made one save in the period to secure the shutout win.

The Loggers outshot the Boxers (10-2) and had more corner kicks (4-1). King recorded two saves in the match. Each team picked up one yellow card as well.

Puget Sound looks to keep its offense hot at home again tomorrow at 2:30 pm against George Fox.
