Loggers fall to Santa Cruz in overtime

TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound men's soccer team held UC Santa Cruz scoreless through 90 minutes, but the Loggers ultimately lost in overtime, 1-0.

Puget Sound goalkeeper Nate King recorded two saves in the match while senior Sam Naatz made numerous defensive plays to keep the Slugs off the scoreboard in the second half. On the offensive side, senior Landon Gauthier led the Loggers in shots with four. The Loggers ended up outshooting the Slugs (10-9) and had more corner kicks (7-3).

The first half featured many close misses for both sides including a shot off the post by Gauthier. In the second half, the Logger defense held strong to keep their team in it. In the final minutes, the Loggers pressed hard keeping the ball on the Slugs end of the field and putting three shots on goal. After a scoreless 90 minutes, the game went into overtime. The Slugs ended the game in the final seconds with a goal from senior Zach Hummel.

Puget Sound will continue its weekend home stint this Sunday, September 7 at 2 pm when it faces Gustavus Adolphus College.
