Whitham scores as Loggers draw with Bruins

NEWBERG, Oregon – The University of Puget Sound men's soccer team tied George Fox 1-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers (9-6-2, 7-3-2 NWC) and Bruins (6-9-3, 3-6-3 NWC) played a scoreless first half. George Fox outshot Puget Sound 10-3 in the period, but Daniel Kirsch made four saves to keep the game scoreless.

Puget Sound took the lead in the 49th minute. Stefan Jensen had the ball and passed it to Benjamin Whitham in the box, who buried his shot to give the Loggers a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins tied the game in the 79th minute when a rebounded shot was put back by Austin Fish to level things up.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the rest of regulation or 20 minutes of overtime.

George Fox outshot the Loggers 25-11, and took more corner kicks (11-4). Josh Sonico, Ezra Kraus, and Benjamin Whitham led the team with three shots each. Goalkeeper Daniel Kirsch (6-9-2) made eight saves.

Puget Sound will next play Pacific on Sunday, November 1. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
