Lokay's goal not enough as Loggers fall to Whitworth

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Zac Lokay scored his third goal of the year, but the University of Puget Sound men's soccer team fell to league leader, Whitworth, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.

In the ninth minute, Whitworth (10-3-2, 8-1-2 NWC) gained the advantage on an Alfredo Ornelas goal. However, a goal by Zac Lokay in the 39th minute would even the game at 1-1 as the two teams headed into the break.

In the 53rd minute, the Pirates went ahead again, this time on a Moi Diaz goal. The Loggers (8-5-2, 5-4-2 NWC) earned a penalty kick in the 64th minute, but Ezra Kraus' shot was saved by Whitworth keeper Timmy Costa. Puget Sound was able to get off four more shots in the match, but were unable to find the back of the net, and ultimately fell.

Whitworth outshot Puget Sound, 15-12, while the Loggers took more corner kicks (5-0). Josh Sonico led the Loggers with three shots, all of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Jacob Palmer (4-3-2) played all 90 minutes, making seven saves.

Puget Sound's next match will be Saturday, October 29, when the team hosts George Fox. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
