Box Score PARKLAND, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team fell to crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, in double overtime on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Both the Loggers (6-3-2, 3-2-2 NWC) and the Lutes (6-5-2, 3-3-1 NWC) recorded a shot in the first three minutes of play, however, neither team was able to get another shot off until the 39th minute. In the 42nd minute, Josh Sonico hit the post for the Loggers, but the two teams entered halftime with the scoreline at 0-0.
In the second period, the Loggers outshot the home team, 4-0, but were unable to break through and take a lead. Therefore, the two teams moved to extra time. The first overtime period was more of the same, with Puget Sound outshooting PLU 2-1. However, once again, the Loggers were unable to put a ball in the back of the net.
A minute into the second overtime period, the Lutes had their best chance of the game thus far, when Eddie Na had a one-on-one with Logger keeper Jacob Palmer. Palmer made a great save to deny Na, and keep PLU off the board. In the 106th minute, PLU crossed the ball across the face of the goal. Jackson Moore came into the box and took a shot with his first touch, which ended up in the net to give the Lutes a 1-0 victory.
Puget Sound outshot PLU (8-7), while also taking more corner kicks than the Lutes (8-4). Sonico led the squad with four shots. Jacob Palmer (2-1-2) played all 106 minutes, making two saves.
The Loggers return home next weekend, when they host Linfield on Saturday, October 15. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
