Fortune makes Logger history in final game of the season

Box Score

FOREST GROVE, OregonHans Fortune solidified himself as the Puget Sound football program's all-time most prolific passer, but the Loggers lost at Pacific, 39-35, in the final game of the season on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Fortune became the Loggers' all-time leader in passing yards (6,852), total yards (6,903), and passing touchdowns (58). Braden Foley '14 held the previous records in all three categories.

Fortune tied Foley's career-record 57th touchdown pass with a three-yard strike to Dustin Harrison, which cut Pacific's lead to 32-20 with 11:14 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Pacific's (4-6, 3-4 NWC) ensuing possession lasted just four plays before Brett Pilling picked off Pacific quarterback Campbell Summerfield at the 50-yard line.

The Logger (3-6, 1-6 NWC) offense kept its foot on the gas. Fortune completed a 15-yard pass to Steven Branham on a crucial fourth-and-five. On the very next play Fortune threw his record-setting 58th career touchdown pass – a 30-yard connection with Sean Whaley that brought the Loggers to within 32-27 with 9:04 left in regulation.

It took only 44 seconds from there for the Loggers to claim a lead. Jacob Wuesthoff returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown that put Puget Sound ahead, 35-32. The pick-six is the second of the senior safety's career (vs. Lewis & Clark, 2014).

Pacific's next possession went 83 yards and took 7:34 off the clock, ending in a game-winning touchdown completion to Kobe Williams with 31 seconds on the clock.

Fortune threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Austin Wagner ran for 105 yards on nine carries, and he led the Loggers with 81 receiving yards. Dustin Harrison caught a team-high nine passes, and Branham reeled in two touchdown receptions. Wuesthoff finished with a game-high 17 tackles, which is also his single-game high for the season.
