Men's basketball sets 3-point record during win over Redlands

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's basketball team set a program record by hitting 24 3-pointers during its 118-112 victory over Redlands in the final game of the 2017 Doug McArthur Classic in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.

The Loggers shot 24-for-54 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc, led by Jimmy Wohrer's eight 3-pointers for 24 points. Gabriel Chaikin set career-highs with 25 points and seven 3-pointers, while Nate Vieira dropped 29 points in just 17 minutes on the floor.

The previous program record for 3-pointers in a game was 21 against Menlo (2006-07).

Although the Loggers provided offensive fireworks all game, it was their defense that ultimately pulled out the victory down the stretch. With the game tied, 104-104, and 2:38 left in regulation, Easton Driessen came away with a steal that led directly to a Wohrer trey. As the Bulldogs tried to bring the ball back up the court, Vieira picked up a quick steal and a fast-break layup to put Puget Sound ahead, 109-104, with two minutes left to play.

Vieira had six steals on the night, and the Loggers forced Redlands into 25 turnovers. On the flip side, Puget Sound committed just 14 turnovers.

Through three games this season, Puget Sound is averaging 109.7 points per game.

The Loggers look to keep it going in a rematch at Redlands on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m.
