Loggers win big, sealing third consecutive win

TACOMA, Washington –The Puget Sound men's soccer team earned its third consecutive Northwest Conference win with a 4-1 triumph over Whitworth on Peyton Field Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers got on the board in the fourth minute when midfielder Dane Schatz intercepted a pass between Whitworth's defender and goalkeeper in front of the goal. Schatz netted the ball in the bottom left corner.

In the 19th minute, midfielder Chet Selis scored Puget Sound's second goal from 25 yards out. His shot landed perfectly in the upper right corner of the net, propelling the Loggers to a 2-0 lead.

Benjamin Whitman obtained the Loggers' third goal after scoring a penalty kick in the 31st minute.

Just one minute later the Pirates struck back. Midfielder Jonah Snyder capitalized on a free kick from 20 yards out, closing their deficit, 3-1.

In the second half, freshman Cale Spence sealed the Loggers' fourth and final goal off of Whitham's corner kick. It is Spence's first-career goal.

Puget Sound goalkeeper Robert Jorgensen logged five saves, sealing his third win in goal of the season.

The Loggers head to Oregon to take on Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 p.m.
