Spence nets first goal for Loggers' first home win

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Cale Spence's first goal of the season stood as the game-winner to lead the Puget Sound men's soccer team to a 1-0 triumph over Northwest Christian on East Field Friday afternoon. It was the first home game of the season for the Loggers (1-2).

The Beacons (1-3) and Loggers were physical through all 90 minutes. The teams totaled 26 fouls, and Northwest Christian received four yellow cards. Puget Sound did not receive a card.

Puget Sound scored the game's only goal on a barrage of shots in the 19th minute. Dan Schatz beat his defender one-on-one on the left side, but his shot attempt was stopped by the Beacon's goalie. Spence got the rebound and immediately fired a shot, but the keeper made another save and the rebound went wide right.

Luke Murdock corralled the rebound and crossed the back in front of the goal, where Spence volleyed home his score from four yards out.

Wren Norwood (two saves) and Ethan Stern-Ellis (three saves) combined to shutout the Beacons.

Puget Sound is back on East Field Saturday, Sept. 8, to host Brooklyn at 5 p.m.
