Second-half comeback bid falls short at Whitworth

Box Score

SPOKANE, Washington – Angel Herrera-Flores and Cale Spence scored crucial goals in the second half, but the No. 10 Puget Sound men's soccer team fell at Whitworth, 3-2, Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers (5-2-2, 2-2-0 NWC) trailed by two goals at halftime, yet Puget Sound remained undeterred. Herrera-Flores put the Loggers on the board with his team-leading fifth goal in the 57th minute. The sophomore found the back of the net on a shot from outside the box.

Just one minute later, Spence's third goal of the year evened the score. Spence corralled a rebound off the goalkeeper and buried the game-tying goal.

The Pirates (4-5-1, 2-2-0 NWC) however, scored the game-winner in the 79th minute.

Whitworth was booked for four yellow cards in the game, while the Loggers did not receive a card. Puget Sound earned 11 corner kicks to the Pirates' five.

The Loggers look to regroup during Homecoming Weekend when Puget Sound hosts Willamette Saturday, Oct. 5, at 12 p.m.
