TACOMA, Washington – Silas Washington ran for his sixth touchdown of the season, and
Alex Meadowcroft had two takeaways, but the Puget Sound football team lost to No. 9 Linfield, 56-7, in the Loggers' Homecoming game in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Â
Linfield (3-0, 1-0) took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Loggers responded with scoring drive that lasted more than eight minutes. Late in the first quarter, Puget Sound (0-4, 0-1 NWC) faced fourth-and-16, and the Loggers lined up the punt. Instead of kicking the ball away, however,
Matt Marengo took a direct snap and sprinted through the tackles than up the far sidelines for a 29-yard game.
Â
A few players later,
Murdock Rutledge connected with Marengo for a 15-yard completion. It set up Washington's 10-yard run to tie the game, 7-7, early in the second quarter.
Â
In the third quarter, Meadowcroft intercepted a Linfield pass in the end zone, and he recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
Puget Sound did not turn the ball over against the Wildcats.
Â
The Loggers next kickoff at Pacific Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m.
