TACOMA, Washington – A trio of Loggers put away double-digit kills as the Puget Sound volleyball team willed itself to victory over Pacific Lutheran, 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 25-16). The Loggers extended their winning streak to six games, while the Lutes' four-game winning streak came to an end.
Â
Jordan Holman finished with 15 kills, and
Katelyn Chekian came up with 14. Katie Carley added 11 kills in the winning effort.
Â
Aliah Ayau had a team-high 27 assists, leading the Loggers (14-6, 8-3 NWC) to a .263 hitting percentage. The Loggers have hit over .250 in of their last three matches, and the team is 12-1 when it hits .200 or better.
Â
The first set set the table for an expected back-and-forth battle, as neither side led by more than two points for the entire set. An emphatic kill by Carley provided the decisive 25
th point for the Loggers.
Â
Puget Sound cruised to a 22-15 lead in the second set, but PLU is not a team that will back down easily. The Lutes closed out the set with an 11-2 run to briefly stun the Loggers.
Â
The Lutes maintained that momentum by taking a 14-9 lead in the third set. From there, however, Puget Sound went on a 12-1 run.
Sadie Alloway started the rally with a kill, and the final point of the run was an ace by Holman.
Â
After winning the third set, Puget Sound opened the fourth with a 5-1 lead and never looked back.
Â
The Loggers are back home Friday, Oct. 22, to host Pacific at 7 p.m.
