TACOMA, Washington – The No. 21/19 Puget Sound women's soccer team kept its undefeated season alive as the Loggers and George Fox tied, 1-1, after two overtimes in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after getting underway, Puget Sound (13-0-2, 9-0-2 NWC)Â nearly got on the scoring sheet first.
Kylee Roath ripped a shot from outside the box in the 12th minute, only to hit the crossbar. Neither team was able to score in the first half.
Once the second half began, the Loggers came out pressuring the Bruins' (9-4-2, 7-2-2 NWC)Â back line. In the 53
rd minute,
Radhika Webster Schultz cut inside on her left foot, and struck the ball that wound up hitting the crossbar again.
George Fox scored first in the 77th minute when a rebound off a free kick was tapped in for the score.Â
Five minutes later, a miscommunication by the George Fox defense resulted in a poor clearance.
Mimi Carrier-Berndt was in the right place at the right time as she controlled that clearance, cut onto her left foot, and curled in a shot past the keeper to tie the game, 1-1.
George Fox had a golden opportunity in the 88
th minute, but this time it was the Bruins who hit the crossbar.
With her second-career goal, Carrier-Berndt has delivered in the clutch for the second time in as many weeks. Her goal at Whitman (Oct. 16) stood as the game-winner as Puget Sound took down the Blues on the road.
Puget Sound will look to keep its undefeated season going when it takes on Pacific (5-8-1, 3-7-1 NWC), Sunday, Oct. 24, at 12 p.m in Baker Stadium.
