TACOMA, Washington – Grant Erickson matched his career-high in scoring, and
Cal Hansen notched his first double-double of the season as the Puget Sound men's basketball team toppled Evergreen State, 93-72 in Memorial Fieldhouse Sunday evening.
Erickson netted 19 points and pulled down nine boards for the Loggers (2-0). Hansen scored 16 points to go with 14 rebounds.
Paul Johnson scored 25 points in the winning effort, and
Taj Phillips dished out eight assists in 15 minutes.
Erickson and Phillips set the tone from the opening tip, as Phillips assisted on three consecutive Erickson layups to give Puget Sound a 6-0 lead. A trey by
Paul Johnson pushed that lead to 9-0.
The Geoducks briefly took an 18-17 lead, but another 3-pointer by Johnson gave the Loggers their first double-digit lead, 32-22, with 5:22 left in the first half.
Puget Sound makes its first road trip next week, starting with Chapman Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.
