Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brown nets 17 points as Loggers win eighth-straight

TACOMA, Washington – Kennedy Brown scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 74-49 win over Linfield in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night. It was the first Northwest Conference game of the season, and the eighth consecutive win for the Loggers.

Brown shot 7-for-12 from the floor in 15 efficient minutes. Sophie Nilsson added 16 poiunts in the winning effort. Thirteen Loggers (8-1, 1-0 NWC) in all put up at least two points against the Wildcats (0-8, 0-1 NWC).

The Loggers held a narrow 19-17 lead after the first quarter, but a driving layup by Paige Gerhart 45 seconds into the second quarter started a big run for the Loggers. Gerhart's bucket gave Puget Sound a 23-19 lead. After a defensive stop, Brown followed with a driving layup of her own to push the lead to 25-19.

That lead reached double-digits, 35-24, when Nilsson scored in the paint with 4:14 left in the half.

Despite the lopsided score, Puget Sound shot only 17.9-percent from distance. Often times the Loggers' defense was their best offense. Puget Sound forced Linfield into 29 turnovers for 36 points.

Puget Sound hosts George Fox Saturday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m.
