Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The opening weekend of the Puget Sound men's soccer season ended with a gut punch as Whitman pulled off a 1-0 win in double overtime in Baker Stadium Sunday afternoon.
One day after the Loggers and Blues combined for three goals in a 2-1 Puget Sound win, neither team scored through 100 minutes Sunday. Whitman's game-winner was scored in the 104th minute when a player broke free down the left side and placed a shot in the upper-right corner.
The Blues outshot the Loggers in the first half, 7-1. Puget Sound made adjustments at halftime and matched the Blues' intensity in the second half. Both teams attempted three shots in the final 45 minutes of regulation.
Puget Sound remains at home next week, Feb. 26-27, when the Loggers host Pacific Lutheran.
