TACOMA, Washington – Marko Babiak's boot and Cade Bennett's hustle gave the Puget Sound men's soccer team a 2-1 win over Pacific Lutheran in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Babiak drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box in the 61st minute. He then buried the set piece into the upper left corner.
PLU tied the game with five minutes left in regulation, and overtime appeared inevitable. But Bennett turned on the jets.
When the Lutes played the ball back to their keeper, Bennett sprinted towards the goal and put pressure on a clearing boot. Bennett gave the goalie little room. He got his foot on the clearing attempt and the ball went straight back into the goal.
The Loggers and Lutes are poised for another thrilling game in Baker Stadium Sunday, Feb. 28, at 1:30 p.m.
