TACOMA, Washington – Following its bye week, the Puget Sound baseball team returns to action at Lewis & Clark for a four-game series that starts Friday, April 23. The unique Northwest Conference scheduling this spring allowed for each team to have a bye week. Also, games that are rained out will not be made up. In order to stay head of anticipated rainy weekend weather in Portland, the Loggers and Pioneers will play Friday and Saturday (instead of the customary Saturday and Sunday).

The Loggers are in dire need of a win, as they enter this weekend with eight losses in their last nine games. Still, Kyle Strash and Dylan Joyce continue to carry the Puget Sound offense, while starting pitchers Owen Shellhammer and Davis Miller give the Loggers a chance to win with each outing.

Shellhammer started the season by winning each of his first three starts, but he's been unable to pick up a win since then. He's been putting up the numbers to earn that elusive fourth victory. Through his last three starts, Shellhammer has a 3.63 ERA and 14 strikeouts.

Miller has also been solid in his last three starts, posting 3.98 ERA - but the Loggers have lost two of those three games.

So far this season Shellhammer's 3.19 ERA ranks fourth in the NWC.

Strash has been on a tear for the past several weeks, as he has a hit in 10 of the last 11 games. That stretch includes six consecutive multi-hit games. Strash is the team's leading hitter with a .370 batting averages.

Joyce ranks second on the team in hitting with a .337 batting average. He is also the team leader in home runs (6), RBI (25), and slugging percentage (.616).

The Pioneers enter this weekend with eight losses on their last nine games. The team's .251 batting average is second-to-last in the NWC, as does its ERA (8.32). Jack Thompson has a team-leading four home runs and a team-best .338 batting average.
