Olsson stays hot as Loggers move back to a tie for first place in the NWC

TACOMA, Washington – Sara Olsson once again led the Puget Sound volleyball team in kills as the Loggers outlast Pacific in five sets (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-28, 15-8) in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday night.

Olsson totaled 18 kills against the Pioneers, less than 24 hours after she put away 23 kills against Georg Fox.

After losing the first set, Puget Sound appeared poised for a four-set victory. The Loggers won the second and third sets, and they held a 24-22 advantage in the fourth set. However, Pacific scored three consecutive points to take a 25-24 lead.

Sarah Johnsen kept the Loggers' fourth-set hopes alive with a kill, and the Loggers were once again on the brink of victory when the Boxers committed an error. But Pacific went on yet another 3-0 run to force the fifth set.

The Loggers held a 9-8 edge in the fifth set when a kill by Olsson shifted momentum for good. She sparked a game-ending 6-0 run that included two kills by Hadley Haselden, and one by Avery Allemann.

Allemann finished the game with nine blocks and 11 kills, while Chloe Akion-Bannan came up with 22 digs.

Whitworth lost to Willamette Saturday night, meaning the Loggers and Pirates are tied for first place (8-4) in the Northwest Conference.

The Loggers host Willamette Friday, October 28, at 7 p.m.
