TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team beat Willamette in three sets (27-25, 25-18, 26-24) in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night. The win allows the Loggers to remain in first place in the Northwest Conference.
Â
Willamette and Puget Sound entered Friday night in a four-way tie with George Fox and Whitworth for first place in the NWC. Now, just Puget Sound and Whitworth are tied for first.
Â
The Bearcats held a 24-21 lead in the first set, but big plays by Avery Allemann kept the Loggers in it. She put away a kill and then followed with a service ace to cut the deficit to one point. An error by Willamette tied the set, 24-24. The Loggers won it with a kill by Sara Olsson followed by a Bearcat error.
Â
Similarly to the first set, Willamette led late in the third set, 22-20. But once again, the Loggers battled back. Kills by Jena Williams and Olsson tied the set, and an error gave the Loggers a 23-22 lead. A kill by Logan Winn followed by another Willamette error ended the set and the match.
Â
Olsson had a team-high 11 kills for Puget Sound, and Allemann added nine. Jena Williams finished with 13 digs, her second-highest toal of the season.
Â
The Loggers host Linfield Saturday, Oct. 29, for the final home match of the regular season.
