Minnehan's triple-double leads Loggers to overtime win

PORTLAND, Oregon – Katie Minnehan's first-career triple-double propelled the No. 24 Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 76-72 win at Multnomah in overtime Saturday afternoon.

Minnehan scored 14 points, grabbed 10 boards, and came away with 12 steals. Samantha Swartout finished with a game-high 17 points, while Sophie Nilsson and Kennedy Brown added 14 points and 13 points, respectively.

The Loggers forced the Lions into 29 turnovers, while Puget Sound committed only 14 miscues.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Brown hit a driving layup to give the Loggers a 60-54 lead. From there, however, the Lions went on a 7-0 run to take a one-point lead.

Swartout earned a trip to the line with 60 seconds left in regulation, and she made both free-throws to give the Loggers a 62-61 lead. Multnomah answered by earning a trip to the free-throw line in the game's final seconds, but the Lions went 1-for-2 to send the game into overtime.

With 90 seconds left in overtime, Minnehan scored in the paint to put the Loggers up, 70-67. Following a defensive stop, Jenai Ancheta scored in the paint of an assist from Minnehan. Nilsson and Gerhart both went 2-for-2 from the free-throw down the stretch, keeping Multnomah out of reach.

The Loggers host their home-opener Saturday, Nov. 19, against Wheaton (Ill.).
