Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20/15 Loggers dominate third quarter to beat Redlands

PARKLAND, Washington - The No. 20/15 Puget Sound women's basketball team wore down Redlands in the second half en route to a 76-59 win in the first game of the Northwest Holiday Tournament hosted by Pacific Lutheran Friday night.

Katie Minnehan and Sophie Nilsson both led the Loggers in scoring with 17 points, each. It was a season-high mark for both Loggers. Minnehan shot 8-for-8 from the floor while pulling down seven rebounds and coming up with five steals.

Kennedy Brown scored 11 points for her seventh game in double figures this season.

Jenai Ancheta filled the stat sheet off the bench, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out four assists, and totaling four steals.

Although the Loggers built a sizeable lead in the first half, Redlands was still able to keep pace. A 3-pointer by Nilsson midway through the second quarter gave the Loggers a 27-19 lead - their biggest of the first half. The Bulldogs fought back to take a 33-31 lead, but Paige Gerhart hit a trey from the corner to give Puget Sound a 34-33 edge at halftime.

The Loggers claimed their first double-digit lead of the game, 47-37, midway through the third quarter when Ancheta found Minnehan for an open layup. Grace Pytnia-Hillier drilled a 3-pointer from the right ride to increase the lead to 55-39 by the end of the quarter.

Puget Sound outscored Redlands, 20-6, in the third quarter.

The Loggers return to Parkland, Saturday, Dec. 17, to take on Coast Guard Academy at 4 p.m.
