TACOMA, Washington – The No. 25 Puget Sound women's basketball team never trailed in its 78-63 upset win over No. 21/14 Whitman Saturday evening in Memorial Fieldhouse. The Loggers are ranked nationally by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and the Blues are ranked nationally by D3hoops.com/WBCA.
The Loggers set the tone early by holding Whitman scoreless through the game's first five minutes. Puget Sound forced the Blues into five turnovers during that stretch, including turnovers in Whitman's first two possessions of the game.
Overall, the Blues were limited to 36.4-percent shooting from the floor, while the Loggers shot 44.4-percent, including 41.1-percent from 3-point range.
Kennedy Brown led the Loggers in scoring with 17 points, and
Sophie Nilsson added 13.
Grace Pytynia-Hillier scored 10 points off the bench.
Puget Sound's next eight games are all away from Memorial Fieldhouse, starting with Coast Guard Academy hosted by Pacific Lutheran, Dec. 17.
