Minnehan records double-double, but No. 19 Loggers fall to No. 6/4 Whitman

TACOMA, Washington – Katie Minnehan posted her first double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the No. 19 Puget Sound women's basketball team lost to No. 6/4 Whitman, 84-70, in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.

Minnehan scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. She shot 7-for-14 from the floor, and handed out three assists. Kennedy Brown scored 12 points for the Loggers (17-4, 10-3 NWC), while Rhae Schulz-O'Neil and Paige Gerhart both added 10.

After trailing by just two points, 21-19, by the end of the first quarter, the Loggers took the lead against Whitman in the second quarter. A jumper by Grace Pytynia-Hillier gave the Loggers their first lead, 22-21, since scoring the game's first basket. A bucket by Addison Reardon put the Loggers ahead, 24-21, with seven minutes left in the first half.

Whitman closed out the second quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 41-35 lead into halftime. The Loggers never reclaimed the lead in the second half, and Whitman built its lead to double digits by the middle of the third quarter.

Puget Sound aims to bounce back at home Saturday, Feb. 12, with a 4 p.m. tipoff against Whitworth.
